"Textures and Layers of Abstraction" Artwork by Todd Breitling
Wilmington Art Loop Exhibit featuring: "Textures and Layers of Abstraction" Artwork by Todd Breitling
Reception: Friday, April 10, 5-8pm, free
Show runs until April 26, 2026
This body of work explores emotion through texture, color, and layered abstraction. Each painting begins intuitively — with loose gestures and bold hues — and evolves through successive layers that conceal, reveal, and transform what lies beneath. The surfaces are built up with thick applications, scraped passages, and subtle transparencies, creating a tactile landscape that invites close viewing.
Color plays a central role in this series. Vibrant tones collide with muted undertones, forming visual rhythms that echo movement, memory, and shifting states of mind. The layering process reflects the complexity of experience — how moments overlap, how feelings accumulate, and how meaning emerges over time.
These paintings are not fixed narratives but open spaces. They ask the viewer to pause, look deeply, and discover their own interpretations within the textured fields of color and form.
