Embossed Metal Made Simple
This workshop will explore the versatility of aluminum soda cans by turning discarded cans into expressive repoussé art.
In this hands-on, three-hour workshop, participants will explore the surprising beauty and versatility of ordinary aluminum soda cans. Using simple tools and free or low-cost materials, we’ll transform discarded cans into expressive repoussé works of art. Participants will be introduced to the break down and preparation of used aluminum soda cans in order to emboss (repoussé) each metal panel.
After a short demonstrations of the technique, participants will choose an image that they brought from home, transfer it to the aluminum panel and then focus on completing a finished piece to take home.
This workshop emphasizes creative reuse, experimentation, and accessibility—no prior experience required, and no expensive supplies needed. Perfect for artists, educators, and anyone curious about making meaningful art from everyday materials. Taught by Sara Hodgson.
Skill level: All levels welcome
Materials: Most provided; participants are welcome to bring clean aluminum soda cans from home if they wish.
