The City of Newark Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for over 600 acres of parks and open spaces, traffic island beautification program and a comprehensive offering of over 400 recreation activities yearly that include opportunities for all ages and interests. Facilities include: Lighted tennis and basketball courts, baseball/softball fields, soccer fields, playground areas, shelters, two swimming pools, street hockey courts, horseshoe pits, community center, and lighted trail. Annual community events include: the Spring Concert Series, Newark Nite, Liberty Day, Community Day, Halloween Parade, and Winterfest.
