From the American Stage

Where music speaks in a voice you may already know.

Michelle Di Russo, conductor • Amy Owens, soprano

  • Barber: Knoxville: Summer of 1915

  • Copland: Dance Episodes from Rodeo

  • Bernstein: On the Town: Three Dance Episodes

  • As well as selections from Candide, Light in the Piazza, and The Sound of Music.

From the American Stage traces a distinctly American voice through music shaped by story, memory, and place. Bernstein’s Candide Overture opens with brilliance and momentum, followed by Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, an intimate reflection on childhood and home. Along the way, the program moves easily from the open landscapes of Aaron Copland to the lyricism of Richard Rodgers, bringing a range of styles and perspectives into focus. Where storytelling and sound move forward together.
