National Geographic contributor Dustin Renwick's story on the true history of s'mores was selected by world renowned Chef José Andrés for The Best American Food and Travel Writing 2026. Dustin will talk about the research and reporting process for his feature story. He'll dig into the local links to s’mores, as well as other behind-the-scenes tidbits.
Author bio:
Dustin Renwick pursues stories that are complex, surprising, and require expansive archival research—especially any stories with connections to the Midwest and Great Lakes. His words and images have appeared in National Geographic, The Washington Post, and Outside, and his most recent book is Beyond the Gray Leaf, the biography of a forgotten Civil War poet.
