SODELO Presents: Ritmos Latinos
Passion, color, and irresistible rhythm take center stage in a program featuring four extraordinary works: Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol.
Maurice Ravel’s Boléro begins almost imperceptibly, with its famous hypnotic rhythm repeating as the music steadily builds in intensity and orchestral color toward an electrifying conclusion.
Next, the orchestra will perform Joaquín Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, featuring acclaimed guitarist Dr. Celil Refik Kaya as soloist. Inspired by the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, Rodrigo’s masterpiece blends the distinctive voice of the classical guitar with the colors of a full orchestra, including its hauntingly beautiful and instantly recognizable slow movement.
Arturo Márquez’s Danzón No. 2 brings the infectious rhythms of Mexican dance music to the concert hall. By turns sultry, playful, and exuberant, it has become one of the most popular orchestral works to emerge from Latin America.
And Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s brilliant Capriccio espagnol captures the spirit of Spain in a dazzling orchestral showpiece filled with vibrant melodies, colorful instrumental solos, and rhythmic energy.
