Timothy Barr: Patience
Somerville Manning Gallery is pleased to present Patience, a new exhibition of paintings by Timothy Barr. Continuing his decades-long exploration of landscape, light, and memory, Barr offers a deeply contemplative body of work that celebrates the quiet poetry of the natural world. Rooted in the Brandywine Valley and surrounding countryside, these luminous paintings invite viewers to slow down and experience the enduring rhythms of place through an artist whose work is defined by extraordinary observation and technical refinement.
Working in the American Luminist tradition, Barr builds his paintings through delicate layers of transparent oil glazes, creating remarkable depth and atmospheric light. Whether depicting a centuries-old sycamore, a farmhouse nestled within the landscape, or an intimate domestic still life, his paintings transform fleeting moments into enduring meditations on time, beauty, and presence.
Patience is on view from September 11 – October 10, 2026. Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 – 5:00.
