Ghosts of the First State: An Evening with Josh Hitchens

Through stories of restless spirits, haunted landmarks, and unexplained encounters, Josh will explore how Delaware's past continues to echo in present day. Participants will hear about the research and storytelling process behind the book, discover the real history connected to Delaware's ghost lore, and engage in a lively discussion about why haunted stories continue to captivate communities across generations. Perfect for history lovers, paranormal enthusiasts, and curious readers alike, this event invites audiences to uncover the places where Delaware's history—and perhaps its spirits—still linger.
Josh Hitchens was born and raised in Sussex County, Delaware. He has been a storyteller for the Ghost Tour of Philadelphia since 2007. Josh is also a theater director, actor, playwright, and teaching artists who has been called "Philadelphia's foremost purveyor of the macabre" by local press. His first book Haunted History of Delaware was released in 2021, followed by Haunted History of Philadelphia in 2022 and Eerie Delaware: Chilling Tales from the First State in 2024. He is also the creator of two podcasts: Going Dark Theatre and Hitchens on Horror. Josh lives in West Philadelphia with his partner and a cat named Mina, after the heroine of Stoker's Dracula.
