DelArt Film Society: The American Dream presents McCabe & Mrs. Miller
The American Dream has been a big part of American cinema since the beginning. This month we dive into two early 70s films. One that looks back, in musical form, on the creation of that dream...and another that looks into whether the American dream is actually attainable.
McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971)
A gambler and a prostitute become business partners in a remote Old West mining town, and their enterprise thrives until a large corporation arrives on the scene.
With its fascinating, flawed characters, evocative cinematography, innovative overlapping dialogue, and haunting use of Leonard Cohen songs, McCabe & Mrs. Miller deglamorized and revitalized the most American of genres.
Presented by Delaware Art Museum.
