Network (1976) is a biting satirical drama about a failing TV network that exploits its veteran news anchor’s (Peter Finch- who won the Academy Award for this performance posthumously) on-air breakdown for ratings, turning him into a sensational “mad prophet.”
This sharp, darkly comic critique of media greed, corporate power, and public spectacle remains eerily relevant. Acclaimed for its witty, prophetic script, masterful direction, and powerhouse performances, it’s considered a must-watch classic of American cinema.
Also stars Faye Dunaway (won Best Actress Oscar for this role), William Holden, Robert Duvall and Beatrice Straight (won Best Supporting Actress Oscar for this role). Directed by Sidney Lumet and written by Paddy Chayefsky (Oscar winner for this screenplay).
