Milford Museum to Premiere New Film "The Colored Balcony" at Schine’s Theatre

As part of the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Milford Museum will premiere a free documentary film titled The Colored Balcony at Schine’s

Theatre in Milford, Delaware on Tuesday, August 18, 6:00 p.m. at the Jesus Love Temple (formerly the Schine’s Movie Theater). Located at 106 S. Walnut

Street in Milford, the building served as a movie theatre from 1948 to 1972. From the time of its opening in June 1948 until the mid-1960s, African American

citizens were restricted to sitting only in the balcony section of the theatre.

The film will explore the history of the Theatre, along with information about Delaware’s history of segregated theatres and drive-ins, and will feature

interviews with Milford citizens, both past and present, who experienced the era of the Colored Balcony. Following the film, the audience will have an opportunity to share their memories of the Colored Balcony and the Theatre.
