One Nation Under God
Thomas Read served as pastor of Old Drawyers Presbyterian Church during the years of the American Revolution. As such, he firmly supported the American cause, assisting General Washington just after the British landing at Head of Elk, Maryland, in August 1777. He also set forth a biblical justification for the American cause and exhorted his congregation to constructively use, not abuse, the liberties obtained through independence from Great Britain. This presentation will explore Read’s thoughts as the thirteen colonies became an independent nation.
